Newport, RI

"America's First Resort", Newport is located at the very southernmost part of Aquidneck Island. Surrounded by Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the historic downtown and waterfront make Newport the quintessential New England coastal town. Tourism & yachting are vital to Newport's economy and the U.S. Naval War College & Naval Station Newport are important regional employers. As of 2009 Newport has a population of 23,467 people.

Portsmouth, RI

Located at the northern tip of Aquidneck Island, Portsmouth also encompasses Prudence Island, Patience Island, Hope Island, and Hog Island. Portsmouth can best be described as a mix of quiet suburban neighborhoods with many working farms and wide open spaces. Many of Portsmouth's businesses focus on the marine trades, with its largest employer being the defense contractor Raytheon. As of 2009 Portsmouth has a population of 16,892 people.

Middletown, RI

Middletown lies to the south of Portsmouth and to the north of Newport on Aquidneck Island, hence the name "Middletown." Although suburban in its residential sections, Middletown is also home to many of Aquidneck Island's larger businesses including a number of military contractors. Many of Aquidneck Island's most beautiful beaches are located in Middletown. As of 2009 Middletown has a population of 16,037 people.

Jamestown, an island located in the middle of Narragansett Bay is connected to the mainland & Aquidneck Island by bridges on its east and west shores. Jamestown is comprised of a small quaint village and semi-rural neighborhoods. Many of Jamestown's homeowners are summer residents, coming during the warm months to enjoy Jamestown natural coastal beauty. Comprised of mainly small businesses, many of Jamestown's residents choose to work off island. As of 2009 Jamestown has a population of 5,473 people.

Located just to the north of Aquidneck Island, Bristol is home to generations of boat builders. Bristol still boasts many of the nation's premier marine trades businesses. Its central location between the greater Providence area, Fall River, MA & Newport makes Bristol a perfect place for commuters who want to live away from bustling larger towns. As of 2007 Bristol has a population of 22,139 people.
